The KENNAMETAL 6388554 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for high-productivity hole-making in ferrous and cast iron applications. It carries the KTFSS06719HPG ISO designation and is manufactured to the KCP15A grade using a fine-grain carbide substrate with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating. The insert seats into KTFS-series drill bodies using a clamp-style holding method and delivers a 180-degree drill point angle with an HPG insert geometry. Cutting diameter is 0.5000 inches (43/64 inch), with a functional length of 0.3360 inches and an overall projection of 0.4805 inches. This insert is specified and installed by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This replaceable tip is intended for drilling into steel and cast iron workpieces, covering ISO material codes P and K. The HPG geometry supports demanding drilling scenarios including inclined entry and exit surfaces, stacked plate configurations, and standard through-hole and blind-hole drilling. The 2-flute, 2-margin, helical flute design with regular spiral promotes chip evacuation in these challenging setups. Coolant-through capability is not incorporated in this insert. The insert is sold individually and is compatible with KTFS-series replaceable tip drill bodies sized for the V insert seat.
Designed for use with KTFS-series replaceable tip drill bodies configured for a V insert seat. Suitable for primary workpiece materials classified under ISO P (steel) and ISO K (cast iron). Refer to the KTFS system documentation for compatible body sizes and configurations.
Replaceable tip drill inserts of this type are installed and indexed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. The drill body must be fully de-energized and the spindle locked before removing or seating the insert. Use the appropriate clamp key or torx driver specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the insert - do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or contamination before each insertion to ensure accurate seating and runout control.
