The KENNAMETAL 6371073 is a replaceable drill tip in the KTFST series, designed for use with compatible indexable drill bodies in precision machining applications. The tip measures 0.5156 inches in cutting diameter and features a 140-degree point angle for stable entry and reduced thrust on hard materials. Manufactured from solid carbide with a fine grain microstructure, it carries an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, providing heat and wear resistance in demanding cuts. The insert geometry is HPL, seat size is P, and coolant-through channels are integrated for effective chip evacuation and thermal management at the cutting edge. Machinists and tool crib personnel in production and job shop environments are the primary users.
This drill tip is suited for drilling stainless steel and other ISO M-group workpiece materials in applications including straight-hole drilling, inclined entry and exit conditions, and stacked-plate drilling. The helical flute design with a regular spiral and two flutes promotes chip flow in interrupted and continuous cuts. The clamp-style insert holding method ensures secure seating during high-feed or high-speed operations. Functional length is 0.2578 inches and overall projection is 0.3665 inches, keeping the tip compact for consistent hole quality.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for compatible KTFST-series indexable drill bodies accepting insert seat size P. Consult the KTFST system tooling guide to confirm body compatibility before ordering.
Installation and replacement of indexable drill tips should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully de-energized and spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or clamp-screw driver specified for the drill body seat to avoid damaging the seating surface. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the new tip; a contaminated seat will affect runout and hole tolerances. Follow the drill body manufacturer torque sequence for the clamping screw.
