The KENNAMETAL 6370989 is a carbide replaceable tip drill designed for high-performance cutting applications in metal machining operations. Built around the KTFS series platform, this drill accepts a replaceable tip geometry designated HPC, allowing worn tips to be swapped without replacing the drill body. The cutting diameter measures 14.8mm (0.5827 inches), with a 143-degree included angle suited for flat-bottom entry characteristics. The tip is finished with an AlCr (aluminum-chromium) PVD coating, which improves heat resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. Through-coolant capability delivers coolant directly to the cutting edge, supporting chip evacuation and thermal control at depth.
This replaceable tip drill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and similar production drilling environments where repeatability and tooling cost control matter. The HPC insert geometry is optimized for high-penetration-rate drilling in steel and similar ferrous materials. Typical users include machinists and tooling technicians in job shops, aerospace component manufacturing, and general metalworking operations requiring consistent hole quality at moderate to high feed rates.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip drill within the KTFS series platform. Tip compatibility is specific to the KTFS series insert seat size S. Verify seat size and series designation before ordering a replacement tip.
Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the drill body. Use the appropriate Kennametal torque wrench or tip-locking tool as specified for the KTFS seat to avoid over- or under-torquing the replaceable tip. Inspect the insert seat for debris or damage before seating a new tip to maintain concentricity and runout tolerances.
