The KENNAMETAL 6351262 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in difficult-to-machine materials. Built to a 7/32 inch (0.2188 inch decimal) diameter with a 140-degree split-point geometry, this drill enters material aggressively and resists walking without a center punch. The AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and hardness at elevated cutting temperatures, extending tool life in demanding applications. Overall length is 3.228 inches (82.00 mm) with a flute length of 1.693 inches (43.00 mm). The straight cylindrical shank measures 1/4 inch in diameter and seats cleanly in standard drill chucks and collets. Machinists, tool-and-die shops, and maintenance technicians working with tough alloys rely on this geometry for consistent hole quality.
This drill is rated for primary use in stainless steel and high-temperature alloys, materials that demand a rigid substrate and a coating capable of handling heat buildup at the cutting edge. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports moderate-depth holes, and the coolant-through design allows cutting fluid to reach the tip directly, reducing heat and improving chip evacuation in blind or deep holes. Typical applications include precision hole drilling in aerospace components, process piping flanges, heat exchanger parts, and structural stainless fabrications where hole tolerance and surface finish matter.
Designed for use in stainless steel and high-temperature alloys. Compatible with CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machines equipped with standard collet or chuck systems accepting a 1/4 inch straight shank. Material grade KCMS15 is optimized for the cutting demands of these workpiece families.
Installation and use of carbide drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with speeds, feeds, and cutting fluid requirements for the target workpiece material. Always ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured with proper clamping torque before beginning a cut. Carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid side loads, interrupted cuts at high feed rates, or dropping the tool, as chipping or fracture can result. When using the coolant-through feature, verify coolant supply is active before the drill contacts the workpiece.
