The KENNAMETAL 6165423 is a solid carbide milling insert in the LNGU series, grade KCSM40, designed for high-performance milling of steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It carries a dual PVD coating of TiAlN and TiN applied to a rectangular, single-sided insert body. The insert measures 17.00 mm in length, 10.00 mm in width, and 7.00 mm in thickness, with a 3/64-inch corner radius and a positive rake geometry. With four cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert delivers consistent tool life in demanding milling applications. It is held in place by a screw-type clamping method.
This insert is intended for use in CNC milling operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces in both production shop and job shop environments. It is compatible with the Mill 4-15 cutter series and carries the GE chip breaker designation, which supports controlled chip formation during interrupted and continuous cuts. The right-hand orientation, 90-degree included angle, and ANSI/ISO standardized geometry make it a direct-fit option for qualified toolholders in that series. Licensed machinists and CNC operators handling ferrous and exotic-alloy components are the primary installers.
Compatible with the Mill 4-15 cutter series. Insert geometry conforms to ANSI code LNGU543ERGE and ISO code LNGU15T612ERGE. Suitable for screw-retained LNGU-style toolholders accepting a size 5 insert with an inscribed circle of 0.3940 inches.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder specification — do not use impact drivers. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert edge.
