The KENNAMETAL 5990785 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill designed for precise, repeatable hole-making in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry and reduced thrust, a right-hand spiral flute configuration, and a bright uncoated finish suited to non-ferrous chip evacuation. At 3.10 mm in diameter (0.1220 inches) with a 66.00 mm overall length (2.5984 inches), this drill fits standard CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld power tools accepting a 6 mm flatted shank. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users.
This drill is rated for aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece materials and is built to a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, yielding a 28.00 mm flute length (1.1024 inches) and a maximum recommended drilling depth of 23.00 mm. The 3-flat shank design prevents rotation in the chuck and allows consistent tool registration. Coolant-through capability supports high-cycle production environments where chip management and heat dissipation are critical. It suits precision fabrication, aerospace component work, and general metalworking applications where tight diameter tolerances are required.
Designed for use with toolholders and chucks accepting a 6 mm shank diameter. Suitable for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and power tools configured for aluminum and non-ferrous material drilling within the 3.00 mm to 4.00 mm drill size range.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine powered down and spindle fully stopped. Secure the 3-flat shank firmly in a compatible chuck or collet to rated clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify coolant-through passages are clear before use in high-cycle applications. Solid carbide tooling is brittle and should not be dropped or used to pry workpieces.
