The KENNAMETAL 5980816 is an indexable grooving and cutoff toolholder from the Beyond Evolution series, designed for external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It accepts EG0300M03P02 inserts and holds them via a clamp-style insert retention method. The toolholder features a right-hand orientation, a 3 mm fixed groove width, and a maximum depth of cut of 16 mm (0.63 inches). Through-coolant capability is built in, directing fluid directly to the cutting zone for improved chip evacuation and insert life. Installed and set up by machinists and CNC lathe operators, this toolholder suits precision grooving and cutoff work where consistent groove geometry is required.
This toolholder is intended for external grooving and cutoff applications on turning centers and CNC lathes. The 5/8 x 5/8 inch square shank fits standard tool block and turret mounting configurations at mount size 1010. The EVSC-T toolholder style with through-coolant delivery makes it well suited for continuous-duty production environments where heat management and chip control are critical. It is used in both general metalworking and precision machining operations where groove width consistency and depth repeatability are required.
Designed for use with EG0300M03P02 inserts. Shank dimensions are 5/8 inch height by 5/8 inch width (15.88 mm x 15.88 mm) with a mount size of 1010, fitting standard CNC lathe turret and tool block setups configured for that shank size.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before mounting or changing toolholders. Ensure the turret or tool block bore is clean and free of debris before seating the shank, and verify that coolant supply lines are properly connected before operating with through-coolant active. Follow the machine tool manufacturer torque guidelines for the specific tool block or turret fasteners being used.
