The KENNAMETAL 5970226 is a solid carbide tapered ball end mill designed for precision milling of complex contoured surfaces, deep-cavity work, and finishing passes in hardened or abrasive materials. It features a 4-degree taper angle per side and a 1/4-inch small-end diameter with a 1/8-inch nose radius, giving it the reach needed for tight-pocket profiling and die-mold work. The 6-flute configuration promotes efficient chip evacuation and a superior surface finish. An AlTiN coating provides high-temperature resistance and extended tool life in ferrous and high-alloy workpieces. This tool is installed and operated by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC programmers working in production and job-shop environments.
The 5970226 is suited for finish milling, semi-finish profiling, and 3D contouring in CNC machining centers. Its 1-9/16-inch length of cut and 4-inch overall length provide adequate reach for medium-depth cavity work without excessive tool deflection. The right-hand flute direction and 38-degree helix angle optimize cutting action in a wide range of ferrous alloys, stainless steels, and hardened tool steels. The UJBE series geometry is engineered for high-performance applications where dimensional accuracy and surface quality are critical.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines accepting a 1/2-inch shank diameter; part of the KENNAMETAL UJBE series of tapered ball end mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and machine power is locked out before changing tooling. Secure the 1/2-inch shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder torqued to the machine tool manufacturer's specification. Verify runout at the tool tip before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear and degrade surface finish quality.
