The KENNAMETAL 5941080 is a carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built on the Beyond Evolution series platform, it features a 4.00 mm (0.1575 inch) cutting width and a neutral lead angle with a 0-degree lead angle geometry, making it suitable for straight, perpendicular cutoff work. The insert carries the KCU25 manufacturer grade with an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, which supports extended tool life under high-speed dry or near-dry cutting conditions. A CM chipbreaker geometry controls chip flow during deep cutoff passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in metal fabrication and production turning environments install and index this insert.
This insert is intended for use in cutoff and grooving toolholders compatible with the EC-U insert style and seat size 4. It is a single-end insert, meaning it provides one cutting edge per piece. Typical applications include production parting of bar stock, tube, and shaft workpieces in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The EC040M04N00CM02 insert designation identifies the geometry, chipbreaker, and dimensional envelope. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces per order.
Designed for use in EC-U style cutoff and grooving toolholders with an insert seat size of 4. Consult the toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm seat geometry and clamping compatibility before installation.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before accessing the toolholder pocket. Use the correct torque wrench and insert seating procedure specified by the toolholder manufacturer to avoid micro-fractures in the carbide. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
