The KENNAMETAL 5708336 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading 5/16-24 UNF holes in high-temperature alloys and nickel alloys. It is manufactured from powdered metal vanadium high speed steel and carries a multi-layer oxide and nitride proprietary coating to resist wear and heat buildup during tapping. The tap features a modified bottoming chamfer, a right-hand thread and flute direction, an H3 thread limit, and a 3B class of fit. Overall length is 2.72 inches with a thread length of 0.49 inches (12.4 mm) and a tapping depth of 1.13 inches (29.0 mm). It is sized for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping applications by machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
This tap is suited for threading blind or shallow-bottom holes in difficult-to-machine materials including high-temperature alloys and nickel-based alloys, where chip evacuation and tool life are critical concerns. The slow-helix spiral flute geometry (11-degree helix angle) helps pull chips back and out of the hole during the tapping cycle. It is used in aerospace, defense, and industrial manufacturing environments where tight thread tolerances and consistent fit are required. Series T692 represents KENNAMETAL's purpose-built tooling line for these demanding material groups.
Designed for tapping 5/16-24 UNF threads in high-temperature alloys and nickel alloys. Part of KENNAMETAL Series T692. Fits standard 5/16-inch tap holders and collet chuck systems compatible with the 0.318-inch shank diameter.
Install in a rigid tap holder or floating tap adapter rated for the shank diameter before use. Power down the machine spindle completely and secure the workpiece before changing or inspecting taps. Apply a cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to maintain coating integrity and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear after use in hard or abrasive alloys, as spiral flute taps in high-temp materials are subject to accelerated flank wear.
