The KENNAMETAL 5697941 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CNMP431K and manufacturer grade KCP10B. It features a multilayer CVD coating system consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process, delivering high wear resistance on steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The insert has an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.1875-inch thickness, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. It is designed for use in turning, facing, and boring operations and is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for medium machining operations on steel and cast iron as its primary workpiece materials, with secondary capability on aluminum and non-ferrous alloys. The negative rake angle and negative side clearance geometry are typical of heavy-duty, stable cutting scenarios. With four cutting edges available per insert and compatibility with both clamp and pin holding methods, it fits standard KENLOC-style toolholders used in horizontal and vertical turning centers. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, carrying ISO insert code CNMP120404 and Iso Code CNMP120404K.
Designed for use in KENLOC-style toolholders accepting CNMP-style inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and clamp or pin holding. Conforms to ANSI insert code CNMP431 and ISO insert code CNMP120404. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Torque the clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer's specification, and confirm insert seating before resuming cuts.
