The KENNAMETAL 5697170 is a TNMG331MN KCP10B grade solid carbide turning insert designed for general-purpose metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied by MTCVD process, delivering high wear resistance on steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The insert measures 0.6496 inches in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. Six usable cutting edges and a negative rake geometry make it a cost-effective choice for roughing and medium machining operations.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications in both production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron, with secondary capability on aluminum and non-ferrous alloys. The MN chip breaker geometry handles roughing through medium machining passes. It mounts using clamp or pin holding methods and conforms to ANSI insert code TNMG331 and ISO insert code TNMG160404, making it a direct fit for KENLOC series toolholders designed around that geometry.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting TNMG-style triangle inserts with ANSI code TNMG331 or ISO code TNMG160404. Compatible holding methods include clamp and pin styles. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key torque to the toolholder manufacturer specification when tightening the clamp screw. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper support and prevent premature edge failure.
