The KENNAMETAL 5694097 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CPGM3252 and ISO designation CPGM09T308, designed for precision metal cutting in turning, facing, and boring operations. It features a multilayer CVD coating system — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process — under the manufacturer grade KCP25B. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert geometry delivers a positive rake angle of 5 degrees with a positive side clearance, a honed cutting edge, and a 0.03125-inch corner radius. With two cutting edges and a screw-on holding method, this insert suits medium machining chip breaker applications on steel and non-ferrous materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production and job-shop turning environments.
This insert is suited for primary workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous metals, aligning with ISO material codes P and N. The KCP25B grade is characterized by moderate wear-resistance combined with toughness for steel applications and moderate wear-resistance to high toughness for aluminum and non-ferrous workpieces. Typical install scenarios include external turning, face turning, and internal boring passes on CNC lathes and turning centers. The screw-on mounting method provides secure, repeatable seating at the toolholder. Medium-duty roughing and semi-finishing passes are common applications for this geometry and grade combination.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders accepting CPGM3252 (ISO CPGM09T308) inserts. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpieces. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards for dimensional interchangeability with holders specified for this insert code.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Disengage machine power and ensure the spindle is fully stopped before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping hardware for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
