The KENNAMETAL 5691791 is a steel-body indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling operations in metal cutting and machining applications. It accepts two indexable inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 3.375 inches at a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The body measures 1.165 inches in maximum drill diameter with a 1.25-inch Weldon Flat flange shank for secure machine tool holding. Built to the DFSP series standard, this drill supports coolant-through capability via axial concentric and radial coolant ports, making it suitable for production drilling environments. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals working on CNC mills and machining centers are the primary installers of this tool.
The 5691791 is used in general-purpose drilling of ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces on CNC machining centers, mills, and turning centers equipped with appropriate toolholding. Its flange shank style suits machines with compatible Weldon Flat or flanged toolholders. The 3xD depth ratio makes it a practical choice for through-hole and blind-hole drilling in production and job-shop environments. Coolant-through delivery helps with chip evacuation and thermal management during continuous drilling cycles.
Compatible insert styles are DFT and SPPX; compatible insert size codes are 05T3 and 09T2.00. Insert lock screw specification is M3-0.5x7.2 T9 drive. Designed for use in DFSP-series tooling systems.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully de-energized and locked out before mounting or changing inserts or toolholders. Verify that the toolholder bore matches the 1.25-inch flange shank diameter and that all insert seats and clamping screws are clean and free of chips before seating inserts. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and insert manufacturer torque guidance for the M3-0.5 insert lock screws, and confirm coolant passages are clear before starting a cutting cycle.
