The KENNAMETAL 5689677 is a 7/8-inch diameter indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling applications in production machining environments. Built on the DFSP series platform, this drill accepts two indexable inserts — compatible styles DFT05T3 and SPGX0703 — and achieves a drill depth-to-diameter ratio of 3xD, with a maximum drill depth of 2-5/8 inches (2.6250 inches decimal). The body is constructed from steel and features a 1-inch diameter Weldon flat flange shank for secure toolholder engagement. Coolant-through capability is supported via axial concentric and radial coolant entry, making this drill well suited for high-productivity metal removal where chip evacuation and tool life are priorities. A licensed machinist or CNC tooling specialist handles setup and operation.
This indexable drill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines capable of accepting a 1-inch Weldon flat flange shank. It is suited for through-hole and blind-hole drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio meets the application requirement. The DFSP series design accommodates two insert seats, with the inner and outer inserts using different compatible insert size codes (05T3 and 0703 series respectively), allowing optimized cutting geometry across the full drill diameter. Typical applications include production drilling in job shop and high-volume manufacturing environments.
Compatible with DFSP series drill bodies. Accepts insert styles DFT05T3 and SPGX0703. Insert lock screws are M3-0.5x7.2 T8 and M2.5-0.45x5.9 T8. Fits toolholders designed for a 1-inch Weldon flat flange shank interface.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool magazine or turret is in a safe position before mounting or removing the drill body. Verify insert seating and lock screw torque per the toolholder manufacturer's guidelines before initiating a cut. Confirm coolant port connections are clear and the correct insert styles and size codes are loaded before running the first part.
