The KENNAMETAL 5655171 is a solid carbide ball nose milling insert in the XPNT series, designed for high-performance milling of steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Carrying manufacturer grade SP6519, the insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which improves heat resistance and wear life in demanding cut conditions. The ball nose geometry delivers a full 360-degree included angle with two cutting edges per insert, a positive rake, and an 11-degree relief angle for clean, efficient chip formation. The honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping on hard-to-machine materials. Secured by screw holding method, this is a single-sided, neutral-hand insert suitable for a wide range of finish and semi-finish milling operations.
This insert is intended for use in CNC milling applications across metalworking environments where steel alloys, stainless grades, and high-temperature superalloys or titanium are the primary workpiece materials. It is compatible with the KENNAMETAL 5505VX cutter series. Typical applications include contour milling, die and mold work, and profiling passes where ball nose geometry is required. Installation is performed by licensed or trained machinists and CNC operators. The insert size code is 060625 with an ANSI and ISO designation of XPNT06062515RF.
Designed for use with the KENNAMETAL 5505VX cutter series. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards under designation XPNT06062515RF. Primary workpiece material codes P, M, and S cover steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer when seating the screw-clamp; do not overtighten. Verify seating and runout before resuming cutting operations.
