The KENNAMETAL 5654220 is a solid carbide milling insert in the XDLT series, designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. This square-shaped insert carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering strong thermal and oxidation resistance at cutting speeds typical of steel and stainless steel operations. With 4 cutting edges, a positive rake geometry, and a honed cutting edge style, the insert is engineered for controlled chip formation and extended tool life. It measures 0.5000 inches in both length and width, with a thickness of 0.2190 inches and a corner radius of 0.0310 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this insert in compatible milling bodies.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium in both roughing and finishing contexts. The D41 chip breaker geometry supports stable cutting across these material groups. The insert is right-hand orientation and uses a screw-in holding method. It is a single-sided insert with a 90-degree included angle and a maximum depth of cut of 0.3345 inches. The ANSI and ISO code for this insert is XDLT120508ERD41, and it is confirmed compatible with the 7792VXD12 cutter series.
Compatible with the 7792VXD12 cutter series. ANSI and ISO designation XDLT120508ERD41. Intended for use with XDLT-series milling bodies accepting 12-size square inserts with screw-in mounting.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket walls and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder specification provided by the cutter body manufacturer. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before each insert change to avoid seating errors that can cause premature edge failure.
