The KENNAMETAL 5641114 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG331FF geometry, part of the KENLOC series. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle, making it suited for finishing operations on steel and stainless steel. The insert carries a KCM15B grade designation with a multilayer MTCVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating, balancing moderate wear resistance with toughness. With four usable cutting edges and compatibility with both clamp and pin holding methods, this insert delivers consistent performance in high-production turning environments. It is intended for use by machinists and CNC lathe operators working to tight surface finish tolerances.
This insert is designed for finishing operations including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. Its primary workpiece material ratings cover Steel (P) and Stainless Steel (M), with additional suitability for superalloys and titanium. The FF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to moderate depths of cut in finishing passes. The negative side clearance and honed cutting edge style contribute to edge stability during these precision applications. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards, with an ANSI insert code of VNMG331 and ISO insert code of VNMG160404.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting VNMG-style inserts with clamp or pin retention. Suitable for multi-use turning applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC lathe operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for this insert geometry during finishing passes.
