The KENNAMETAL 5641090 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CPMT3251LF and manufacturer grade KCM15B. It carries a multilayer TiCN and Al2O3 CVD coating applied via MTCVD process, providing moderate to high wear resistance with retained toughness. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, an 11-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches, it is sized for finishing and light machining operations. Licensed HVAC and machining technicians, toolroom machinists, and CNC operators install this insert in screw-on toolholders for turning, facing, and boring applications.
This insert is designed for finishing and light machining of steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. It is classified under primary workpiece material codes P and M, covering ISO material groups steel and stainless steel respectively. The neutral hand orientation and positive side clearance make it suitable for a wide range of screw-on toolholder setups. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light chip loads and fine surface finishes in production turning environments, both in manual and CNC applications.
Designed for use in screw-on toolholders accepting CPMT3251 or CPMT09T304 inserts. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium per ISO material codes P and M. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of debris before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating torque. Index or replace the insert when cutting edge wear affects surface finish or dimensional tolerance.
