The KENNAMETAL 5640905 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CCMT2151MF and ISO designation CCMT060204MF, offered in the KCM15B grade. It features a multilayer MTCVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating engineered for finishing and medium machining operations on steel and stainless steel. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong cutting geometry with a positive rake angle and positive side clearance. With an inscribed circle of 0.25 inches and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches, this insert delivers controlled chip formation via the MF chip breaker. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working on turning, facing, and boring applications will find this insert suited to demanding production environments.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring on CNC lathes and turning centers. Its primary workpiece material designations are P (steel) and M (stainless steel), with extended suitability for superalloys and titanium. The KCM15B grade offers moderate wear resistance and toughness for steel and high to moderate wear resistance for stainless steel, making it a versatile option across a range of cutting conditions. The MF chip breaker geometry supports finishing passes and medium stock removal where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities.
Designed for use in screw-on style CCMT insert toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO seating standards. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians using the appropriate torx or hex key for the screw-on seat style. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut for the insert geometry and workpiece material combination.
