Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 5630747 is a solid carbide milling insert in the SNPJ series, designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. Carrying the KCPM40 manufacturer grade, this insert features a PVD-applied dual coating of TiAlN and AlCrN, delivering enhanced heat resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting speeds. The square insert measures 0.5 inches in length and width, with a thickness of 0.178 inches and a corner radius of 0.031 inches. With 8 cutting edges and a negative rake geometry, this insert is built to maximize tool life and reduce cost-per-edge in production environments. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals install and index this insert in compatible milling cutter bodies.

This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, making it appropriate for aerospace, energy, and precision machining applications where workpiece material demands a tough, temperature-resistant coating system. The SNPJ442 insert style with GD chip breaker geometry handles interrupted cuts and variable stock conditions common in these materials. It is compatible with the KSSM cutter series. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible positioning in multi-edge setups, and the double-sided design doubles available cutting edges before replacement.

Key Features

  • KCPM40 grade solid carbide substrate with PVD TiAlN and AlCrN dual coating for high-heat, high-wear applications
  • 8 cutting edges on a double-sided square insert for extended tool life and low cost-per-edge
  • Negative rake with chamfered and honed cutting edge style for stable, predictable chip formation
  • GD chip breaker geometry optimized for steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium
  • Screw-type insert holding method for secure, repeatable clamping in the cutter body
  • ANSI code SNPJ442SNGD and ISO code SNPJ120608SNGD for cross-reference and standardized ordering

Compatibility

Designed for use with the KSSM cutter series. ANSI code SNPJ442SNGD and ISO code SNPJ120608SNGD apply. Verify cutter body pocket specifications before installation.

Installation Notes

Indexable carbide inserts should be installed by qualified machinists following the cutter body manufacturer's torque and seating guidelines. Power down and lock out the machine spindle completely before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the cutter body and insert combination in use.
