The KENNAMETAL 5591916 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the ANSI designation CPMT3252MP and the ISO code CPMT09T308MP, finished with a multilayer CVD TiCN/Al2O3/TiOCN coating under the KCM25B grade. The insert measures 9.67 mm (0.3808 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. Its 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, positive rake geometry, and honed cutting edge make it suited for productive stock removal in steel and stainless steel applications. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the screw-on holding method provides secure seating in compatible toolholders. The KCM25B grade is characterized by high toughness in steel (P) and moderate wear resistance with toughness in stainless steel (M).
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. The MP chip breaker geometry supports both roughing and medium machining operations, making it a versatile choice for shops running varied material specifications or lot sizes. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists typically deploy this insert in production turning centers and manual lathes where consistent chip control across variable feeds and depths of cut is required. Suitable for use on steel (P), stainless steel (M), and superalloys and titanium workpieces per ANSI and ISO toolholder standards for this insert geometry.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a stopped, locked-out state before any insert change. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excess clamping force. Verify that the insert seat and chip gullet are clean and free of debris before seating the new insert. Confirm correct insert orientation and chip breaker direction relative to the intended cut direction before resuming operation.
