The KENNAMETAL 5591902 is a DNMG431MP solid carbide turning insert in grade KCM25B, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert features a multilayer CVD coating system — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process — delivering a balance of high toughness for steel and moderate wear resistance for stainless steel. The 55-degree diamond (D) shape with a negative rake angle and neutral hand orientation suits a wide range of turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. It provides four usable cutting edges per insert, making it an efficient replacement consumable for production environments.
The 5591902 is sized at 0.5 inches inscribed circle with an insert length of 1.2208 inches and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). The MP chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining operations. Primary workpiece materials include steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), and superalloys and titanium. It is held by clamp or pin methods, consistent with standard KENLOC tooling systems. This insert suits both high-production shops and job shops running mixed material programs where a single insert grade must cover multiple part types.
Designed as an OEM-grade replacement insert for KENLOC series toolholders accepting DNMG-style inserts. Conforms to ANSI insert code DNMG431 and ISO insert code DNMG150404, allowing cross-reference with any toolholder rated for that geometry. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and secure with the appropriate clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new edge to avoid premature edge failure.
