The KENNAMETAL 5591778 is a solid carbide turning insert designated VBMT332MP, manufactured in grade KCM25B with a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 12 degrees, a 5-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. With 2 cutting edges, a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0313-inch corner radius, this insert is engineered for steel and stainless steel turning applications where high toughness and moderate wear resistance are required. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
The VBMT332MP KCM25B is suited for roughing and medium machining operations on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. Its MP chip breaker geometry supports turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring in both roughing and medium-cycle programs. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard VBMT screw-on toolholders used in external and internal turning setups on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Primary workpiece material codes are P and M per ISO classification.
Designed for use in screw-on VBMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications on CNC and manual lathes machining steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. Verify toolholder pocket geometry matches VBMT insert style before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in a vise or turret before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the screw-on clamp screw; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
