The KENNAMETAL 5591149 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI code TCMT2151LF and grade KCM25B, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a triangular (T) shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 1/4 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius. Its multilayer CVD coating — TiCN / Al2O3 / TiOCN applied via MTCVD process — provides a combination of high toughness on steel and moderate wear resistance on stainless steel. The LF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and light machining passes, where consistent chip control and surface finish matter most. The screw-on holding method keeps setup repeatable across tool changes.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The KCM25B grade is rated for ISO material groups P (steel, high toughness) and M (stainless steel, moderate wear resistance and toughness), making it a versatile choice for job shops and production environments handling mixed material workloads. With three cutting edges per insert and a neutral hand orientation, it fits standard TCMT-style toolholders in both ANSI and ISO configurations. Typical applications include light finishing passes where dimensional accuracy and surface integrity are the primary objectives.
Designed for use in TCMT-style screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for steel (P group) and stainless steel (M group) workpiece materials per ISO classification. Check toolholder manufacturer documentation to confirm pocket geometry and screw size before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Verify insert seating, pocket cleanliness, and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
