The KENNAMETAL 5588934 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable insert drills operating in demanding metal-cutting applications. Manufactured to the DFTHP geometry with a KCU25 grade substrate, this insert features a TiAlN PVD coating that provides thermal resistance and extended tool life during high-speed drilling operations. The trigon (84-degree included angle) insert shape and 1.2 mm corner radius support stable chip formation and reduced cutting forces in both through-hole and blind-hole drilling. Weighing 0.04 pounds, this insert is a precision-ground carbide component suited for use by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is applied in indexable insert drill bodies configured for the DFTHP insert style. Typical applications include drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other ferrous materials where PVD-coated carbide grades deliver reliable wear resistance. The HP chipbreaker geometry is optimized for positive chip control in medium to heavy chip-load scenarios. The insert carries an inscribed circle of 17.6 mm (0.6930 inches) and an insert size designation of 110508, which guides proper holder selection. It is sold individually per package, with a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use in indexable insert drill bodies that accept the DFTHP insert style with a 110508 insert size designation and a 5.85 mm (0.2300 inch) mounting hole diameter. Verify holder specifications against insert dimensions before installation.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle stopped and machine locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torque driver or insert-clamping wrench specified by the drill body manufacturer — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners, as this can damage the insert seat. Inspect the pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the KCU25 grade and workpiece material combination.
