The KENNAMETAL 5545398 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation EDPT180516PDERGD and manufacturer grade KCPM40. It features a parallelogram shape with a 70-degree included angle, a positive rake geometry, and a honed cutting edge style that reduces built-up edge on difficult materials. The insert is PVD-coated with a TiAlN and AlCrN multilayer coating for thermal resistance and wear life. With a thickness of 0.2165 inches and an inscribed circle of 0.431 inches, it seats in screw-lock style toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this insert in milling applications where consistency and edge integrity are critical.
This insert is designed for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and S. It is a right-hand, single-sided insert with two cutting edges and is compatible with the Mill 1-18 cutter series. The GD chip breaker geometry supports chip control in both light and moderate depth-of-cut passes on these material groups. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and profiling operations on CNC machining centers in production and job-shop environments.

Installation is performed by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw; do not overtighten by feel alone. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
