The KENNAMETAL 5534262 is a square SPPX-style indexable drill insert designed for use in modular indexable drill bodies. It is manufactured from solid carbide in a fine-grain grade designated KCU25 and carries a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating for extended wear resistance in demanding cutting applications. The insert features a 0.5000-inch (12.70 mm) inscribed circle, a corner radius of 0.0315 inches (0.80 mm), and an 11-degree relief angle. The RHP chipbreaker geometry is engineered to control chip flow and reduce cutting forces in drilling operations. Machinists and toolroom professionals install this insert in compatible indexable drill holders for precision hole-making in production environments.
This insert is suited for indexable drilling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where consistent hole quality and tool life are priorities. The KCU25 grade with CVD TiCN and Al2O3 coating targets general-purpose to moderate-interrupted-cut drilling in materials such as steel and cast iron. The SPPX insert style fits indexable drill bodies that accept square inserts with a 0.1811-inch (4.60 mm) mounting hole diameter. It is sized at insert size designation 120408 and is typically used as an outer or inner insert depending on the drill body configuration specified by the tooling manufacturer.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for indexable drill bodies that accept SPPX square inserts with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and a 0.1811-inch mounting hole diameter, insert size 120408.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians following the drill body manufacturer's torque and seating procedures. Always index or replace inserts with the machine powered off and the spindle locked. Use the correct Torx or hex key as specified by the drill body manufacturer for the clamp screw — do not substitute driver sizes. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure full and flat contact.
