The KENNAMETAL 5534260 is a square-style indexable drill insert in the SPPX insert family, grade KCU25, designed for use in indexable drilling tool bodies. The insert is manufactured from fine-grain solid carbide and carries a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. With a 0.3752-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.1563 inches, and a 0.0315-inch (0.80 mm) corner radius, this insert is sized for precision drilling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The MD chipbreaker geometry supports chip control in moderate cutting conditions. Installation and replacement are performed by machinists and tooling technicians during scheduled insert index intervals.
This insert is suited for indexable drilling applications in machining centers, CNC lathes with live tooling, and drill press setups where a replaceable carbide insert system is used. The right-hand cutting orientation and SPPX insert style make it compatible with tool bodies designed around that insert geometry. Typical applications include production drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar materials where CVD-coated carbide grades are specified. The KCU25 grade is positioned for general-purpose and interrupted-cut drilling scenarios where toughness and coating durability are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for indexable drill tool bodies that accept SPPX-style square carbide inserts with a 09T308 insert size designation and a 0.1417-inch mounting hole diameter.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per established LOTO procedures. Use the correct torque screwdriver or insert clamping tool specified for the tool body to avoid seat damage or screw shear. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of edge wear, chipping, or surface finish degradation on the workpiece.
