The KENNAMETAL 5534250 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making operations in metal cutting applications. Manufactured in the SPPX insert style with a square shape and KCU40 grade, it features a PVD-applied TiN and TiAlN dual-layer coating that provides wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The inscribed circle measures 15.73 mm (0.6193 inches), with a thickness of 0.2343 inches and a corner radius of 0.80 mm (0.0315 inches). An RHP chipbreaker geometry controls chip flow during drilling. This insert is installed by machinists and tooling specialists running indexable drill bodies in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for use in indexable drill tooling systems requiring SPPX-style inserts with a 15T508 insert size designation. Right-hand cutting direction makes it compatible with standard spindle rotation on CNC machining centers, lathes with live tooling, and dedicated drilling machines. The 5.50 mm hole diameter and 11-degree relief angle are matched to SPPX-compatible drill bodies. It is appropriate for a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where a PVD TiN/TiAlN-coated carbide grade is specified.
Designed as a replacement-style SPPX indexable drill insert for use in drill bodies accepting a 15T508 insert size with a 5.50 mm mounting hole diameter. Verify body manufacturer specifications before ordering to confirm seating and clamping compatibility.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the tool body manufacturer's specified seating procedure — do not over-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert, and confirm secure clamping before resuming operation.
