The KENNAMETAL 5455863 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in ferrous materials. Built from HSS-E (High-Speed Steel-E) in the T820 series, this tap uses a 2-flute, spiral point geometry to push chips ahead of the cut, keeping the flutes clear during blind and through-hole applications. It carries an oxide coating to reduce friction and resist galling during the tapping operation. The 8-32 UNC thread form, right-hand cut, and H5 thread limit make it suited for precision threading work in medium-tolerance threaded fastener applications. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a thread length of 0.38 inches.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It is commonly used in production machining, maintenance and repair operations, and general metalworking environments where consistent 8-32 UNC threads are required. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in that distributes cutting load across multiple threads, making it a practical choice for both manual and machine tapping setups.
