The KENNAMETAL 5455233 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel with cobalt content (HSS-E) and finished with an oxide coating, it cuts 2-56 UNC threads at 56 threads per inch. The plug chamfer style starts the cut progressively, and the 2-flute geometry pushes chips forward through the hole rather than backing them out. Thread limit H2 and class of fit 2B make this tap suitable for standard tolerance internal threads. Material grade KSP39 provides added toughness for demanding cuts. It measures 1.75 inches overall length with a 0.391 inch thread length, and is right-hand cutting only.
This tap is rated for use in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It is a fractional inch series T820 tool intended for through-hole applications where chip evacuation matters. The plug chamfer makes it well suited for starting in a drilled hole with a standard entry, rather than requiring a bottoming or taper tap first. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this size range frequently for small fastener thread work in precision assemblies, fixtures, and enclosures. Coolant-through capability is not supported on this tap.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. Fits standard tap holders and driver chucks sized for the 0.141 inch shank diameter. Compatible with Series T820 tooling setups per KENNAMETAL specifications.
This tap is installed and used by machinists and maintenance technicians in mill, drill press, or hand-tapping operations. Always ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for a 2-56 UNC thread before beginning. Apply cutting fluid or tapping oil appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Do not reverse-feed a spiral point tap in a blind hole, as this style is designed exclusively for through-hole applications.
