The KENNAMETAL 5443921 is a spiral flute tap designed for bottoming applications in M16x1.50 threaded holes. It features 3 flutes with a right-hand helix angle of 45 degrees, allowing chips to evacuate upward out of the hole during tapping. The tap is manufactured from vanadium high speed steel and finished with an oxide coating to reduce friction and extend tool life. With an overall length of 3.81 inches and a thread length of 1.09 inches (27.70 mm), this tool is suited for production tapping in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It carries a D6 thread limit designation. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and tooling professionals.
This tap is used in bottoming applications where threads must be cut close to the bottom of a blind hole. The 45-degree helix angle and fast flute style make it well suited for tapping ductile and work-hardening materials such as steel and stainless steel. It is also rated for use in cast iron. The GOtap series designation indicates it is part of a recognized Kennametal product family engineered for consistent thread quality in high-production environments. The shank diameter is 0.48 inches (12.19 mm), compatible with standard tap holders and CNC toolholding systems.
Designed for use in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces (primary workpiece material codes P, M, and K). Compatible with standard tap holders accepting a 0.48-inch (12.19 mm) shank diameter.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are secure and all feeds and speeds are set appropriately for the workpiece material before beginning the tapping cycle. Use adequate cutting fluid or coolant directed at the tool when tapping stainless steel or other work-hardening alloys. For CNC applications, confirm tap holder runout and alignment before production runs to avoid thread quality issues or tool breakage.
