The KENNAMETAL 5416940 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in stainless steel and non-ferrous metals. It cuts a 9/16-18 UNF right-hand thread and features a plug chamfer entry with 3 flutes that push chips ahead of the tap during cutting. The tap is manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E (HSS-E), a cobalt-alloyed grade that resists heat and wear in tough materials. A triple coating of TiN, CrC, and C further improves lubricity and tool life. The H3 thread limit provides a standard tolerance class suitable for most UNF threaded fastener fits. This tap belongs to KENNAMETAL Series T820 and carries material grade KSMN34.
This tap is intended for through-hole applications in production and maintenance environments where stainless steel and non-ferrous workpieces require a fine 18 TPI thread. The spiral point geometry is most effective in through-holes where chips can exit freely ahead of the cutting edges. Typical users include machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance technicians working on CNC machines, manual mills, or drill presses. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of one piece.
Designed for through-hole threading of stainless steel and non-ferrous metals requiring a 9/16-18 UNF right-hand thread. Compatible with standard tap holders, tapping heads, and CNC rigid-tap chucks accepting a 0.429-inch shank diameter with an 8.10 mm square drive.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist familiar with tapping speeds and feed rates appropriate for the workpiece material. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pre-drilled hole before engagement to avoid tap breakage. Apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for stainless steel or the target non-ferrous material. Follow shop safety practices and any applicable machine guarding requirements when operating powered tapping equipment.
