The KENNAMETAL 5416903 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in 3/8-24 UNF applications. Built from HSS-E (High-Speed Steel-E, material grade KSMN34), it carries a triple coating of TiN, CrC, and C for extended tool life and reduced friction across demanding materials. The tap features a plug chamfer for standard through-hole entry, a 3-flute configuration, and a right-hand thread direction with an H3 thread limit. Overall length is 2.9375 inches and thread length is 0.75 inches. It is suited for machinists, tool-and-die specialists, and maintenance technicians working in production or repair environments.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading operations in stainless steel and non-ferrous metals, making it a strong choice for aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing applications where thread quality and dimensional accuracy are critical. The 3B class of fit meets standard tolerance requirements for most UNF threaded assemblies. At 0.1 pounds, it is lightweight and fits standard tap holders and machines. Coolant-through capability is not available on this tap, so surface cutting fluids or paste compounds are recommended when working harder materials.
Designed for through-hole threading in stainless steel and non-ferrous metal workpieces requiring 3/8-24 UNF threads at a 3B class of fit. Compatible with standard tap holders, CNC machining centers, and drill press setups that accept a 0.381-inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician using a properly aligned tap holder or tapping head to prevent tap breakage. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the spindle is at the correct speed for the material being tapped before engaging the tap. Because this tap does not feature coolant-through capability, apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound directly to the cutting zone, especially when threading stainless steel. Inspect thread quality with a go/no-go gauge after tapping to verify 3B class of fit compliance.
