The KENNAMETAL 5413257 is a VBMT332LF KCP10B solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in steel and cast iron applications. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating system — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN — applied via MTCVD process, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The 35-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code V) offers a sharp, narrow profile suited for profiling and finishing passes. With a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a honed cutting edge, this insert reduces cutting forces and minimizes workpiece deflection. It is installed in screw-on style toolholders and is sold in minimum order quantities of 5.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. It is a neutral-hand insert, making it compatible with both right- and left-hand setups when used in appropriate toolholders. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light finishing cuts where tight tolerances and smooth surface finish are priorities. Machinists and CNC lathe operators working with P-class steels and K-class cast irons will find this insert effective across a range of depths of cut up to 0.09 inches. Designed for use in screw-on style VBMT toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K). Material grades C3 and C7 apply. Compatible with CNC and manual lathe setups requiring a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a screw-on mounting method.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is clear of the work zone before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct screw torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can crack the carbide insert. Verify insert seating and shim condition before resuming cuts.
