The KENNAMETAL 5397495 is a carbide replaceable tip drill from the KSEM Plus series, designed for high-productivity drilling in steel and stainless steel applications. The drill features a solid carbide tip with KCPM45 fine-grain grade and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, giving it strong wear resistance and edge retention in demanding ferrous materials. The cutting diameter is 25.67mm (1.0106 inches), the drill point angle is 140 degrees, and the design incorporates 2 flutes with a helical, regular spiral configuration. Coolant-through capability is standard, including support for minimum quantity lubrication (MQL). This type of insert is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The KSEM Plus replaceable tip system is suited for drilling operations in steel and stainless steel workpieces, with compatibility for inclined entry and exit surfaces, as well as stacked plate drilling. The HPG insert geometry and 2-flute, 2-margin configuration with through-coolant channels support consistent chip evacuation and thermal management at the cutting zone. This drill tip is clamped into a compatible KSEM holder body at insert seat size 5, making it appropriate for CNC machining centers running production drilling cycles where tip replacement is preferred over full-drill replacement.
Designed for use with KSEM Plus series holder bodies at insert seat size 5. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO material code P) and stainless steel (ISO material code M). Rated for inclined-exit drilling and stacked-plate drilling applications.
Installation and replacement of this tip is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the tip. The tip is secured via a clamp mechanism — use the correct Kennametal torque key or wrench for the KSEM system to avoid over-tightening or under-seating. Verify coolant port alignment with the holder body before resuming operation.
