The KENNAMETAL 5397484 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and stainless steel applications. The drill accepts a solid carbide KSEM0813HPG tip with an HPG insert geometry and is manufactured to KCPM45 grade using a fine-grain carbide substrate. A PVD-applied TiAlN coating improves heat and wear resistance during cutting. The tip is secured by a clamp-style holding method and features through-coolant capability, including compatibility with MQL (minimum quantity lubrication) systems. The 140-degree drill point angle and regular helical spiral promote chip control and hole entry geometry across a range of workpiece conditions.
This drill is suited for production drilling in ferrous materials, specifically steel and stainless steel (ISO material codes P and M). It is designed to handle challenging entry and exit conditions including inclined surfaces and stacked plates. With a cutting diameter of 0.8126 inches (20.64 mm) and a 2-flute, 2-margin configuration, it fits applications where hole accuracy and surface finish are priorities. The 5397484 tip is part of the KSEM replaceable tip drill system and uses the KSEM0813HPG ISO interface at insert seat size 3. It is intended for use with compatible KSEM series drill bodies that accept this tip size. Primary workpiece materials are steel and stainless steel (ISO P and M material groups).
Installation of replaceable carbide drill tips should be performed by qualified machine operators or tooling technicians following the machine tool manufacturer lockout procedures before tip changes. The clamp mechanism should be torqued using the correct wrench as specified by KENNAMETAL tooling documentation for the KSEM seat size. Coolant channels must be clear and aligned before operation to ensure proper through-coolant or MQL flow to the cutting zone.
