The KENNAMETAL 5397476 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM Plus series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and stainless steel applications. The tip carries the KCPM45 manufacturer grade with a fine-grain carbide substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that resists heat and wear at the cutting edge. The 19mm (0.748 inch) cutting diameter and 140-degree drill point angle suit a wide range of through-hole and blind-hole operations. Two helical flutes and a 2-margin geometry stabilize the drill during cut entry and exit, contributing to consistent hole quality across production runs. Integrated through-coolant passages support both flood coolant and minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) delivery, keeping temperatures controlled and chip evacuation efficient.
This replaceable tip drill is suited to CNC machining centers and turning centers in production environments where insert-seat tooling lowers per-hole cost versus solid-shank drills. Primary target materials are P-grade steels and M-grade stainless steels. The HPG insert geometry and regular spiral flute design handle demanding applications including inclined-surface entry, stacked-plate drilling, and through-coolant drilling cycles. Insert seat size 2 matches the corresponding KSEM Plus holder body. The tip is held mechanically by a clamp system, allowing tip replacement without removing the holder from the spindle.
Designed for use with KSEM Plus series holder bodies at insert seat size 2. Intended for P-grade steel and M-grade stainless steel workpiece materials as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the machine tool builder's spindle and toolholder specifications. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the replaceable tip. Confirm the insert seat is clean and free of chips or debris before clamping the tip; contamination on the seating face affects runout and tip life. Verify coolant passage alignment and confirm adequate coolant pressure before beginning the drilling cycle.
