The KENNAMETAL 5397387 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for the KSEM Plus modular drilling system. Identified by ISO designation KSEM1400HPGM and manufactured in grade KCPM45 with a fine grain carbide substrate, this tip delivers consistent cutting performance in demanding drilling operations. The physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance and surface hardness suited to high-productivity drilling cycles. With a 14mm cutting diameter, a 140-degree drill point angle, and HPG insert geometry, the tip seats into the KSEM modular holder using an Insert Seat Size B clamp-style interface. Coolant-through capability, including MQL (minimum quantity lubrication) compatibility, supports chip evacuation and tool life in deep-hole applications.
This replaceable tip is intended for use in machining steel and stainless steel workpieces, covering ISO material codes P and M. Typical applications include standard through-drilling, inclined entry and exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling scenarios common in job shop and production machining environments. The helical, regular spiral, 2-flute, 2-margin design promotes stable chip flow and hole finish. It is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with compatible KSEM Plus modular tool bodies.
Designed for use with KSEM Plus series modular drill bodies using Insert Seat Size B. Primary workpiece materials are steel and stainless steel (ISO material codes P and M). Suitable for inclined exit, stacked plate, and standard through-drilling operations as specified in the product application data.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. The drill body and spindle must be fully de-energized and the machine brought to a complete stop before tip removal or installation. Use the appropriate KSEM torque key or clamping tool to seat the tip correctly — do not use substitutes that could damage the seating surface. Confirm coolant passages are clear before returning the tool to service.
