The KENNAMETAL 5393244 is a CNMG432RN indexable turning insert in grade KCP40B, designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a solid carbide substrate with a multilayer MTCVD coating consisting of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.0313 inch corner radius, and a 0.1875 inch thickness. The RN chip breaker geometry uses a chamfered and honed cutting edge with a negative rake angle, making it well suited to continuous and interrupted cuts in steel and stainless steel.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations in production and job-shop environments. It is a direct fit in KENLOC-style toolholders that accept CNMG 432 inserts with a clamp-and-pin holding method. Primary target workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M). With four usable cutting edges per insert and a neutral hand orientation, it is a flexible choice for both roughing and finishing passes where depth of cut does not exceed 0.1691 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the typical installers.
Designed for use in KENLOC-style CNMG 432 toolholders using clamp and pin clamping. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, and boring of steel and stainless steel workpieces per ISO material codes P and M.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert — do not over-tighten by hand. Inspect the pocket seat and locating pin for chips or wear before seating a new insert to ensure proper edge presentation.
