The KENNAMETAL 5388084 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG644RN geometry, grade KCP10B, designed for precision material removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process, delivering thermal resistance and wear life suited for interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert carries a neutral hand orientation, a negative rake angle, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge for edge stability. The RN chip breaker geometry controls chip flow across a range of depths of cut up to 0.25 inches. Part of the KENLOC series, this insert is held by clamp and pin mounting.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P and K. It performs in general-purpose roughing through medium finishing passes on conventional and high-production CNC turning equipment. The 80-degree diamond shape and four usable cutting edges make it an efficient choice for shops running high-volume steel or cast iron components where consistent tool life and predictable chip control are priorities. It complies with both ANSI and ISO standards, with ISO code CNMG190616RN.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series CNMG toolholders accepting a 3/4-inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with primary workpiece materials including steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K). Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for CNMG-style inserts.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct CNMG clamp and pin hardware specified for the toolholder; do not substitute mismatched clamping components. Verify seating by confirming the insert sits flush against all pocket contact surfaces before resuming cutting.
