The KENNAMETAL 5324923 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured under the VCMR331FP geometry in the KCP10 grade, it features a multilayer MTCVD coating of TiCN and Al2O3 that delivers high wear resistance on steel workpieces and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape and positive rake geometry promote clean chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces during finishing passes. With a honed cutting edge and FP chip breaker, this insert is engineered for tight-tolerance surface finishes at controlled depths of cut.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications in both production and job-shop environments. It targets primarily steel workpieces (ISO material code P) and is also rated for aluminum and non-ferrous materials (ISO code N). The neutral hand orientation and clamp-style holding method make it compatible with standard Top Notch toolholders. Typical users include CNC machinists, toolroom technicians, and production turning operators working with P- and N-class workpiece materials where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before securing the clamp to the recommended toolholder torque specification provided by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker condition before each operation; never use a damaged or chipped insert.
