The KENNAMETAL 5134141 is a solid carbide milling insert in the KGIP series, grade KCU45, designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding cutting applications. It features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) AlTiN coating that improves wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert measures 0.125 inches wide and 0.111 inches thick, with an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches. It carries a positive rake angle of 4 degrees, a relief angle of 3 degrees, and a honed cutting edge style. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling specialists in milling operations where controlled chip formation and edge integrity are critical.
The 5134141 is engineered for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It is suited to both roughing and finishing passes where a single-sided, neutral-hand insert with screw-clamping retention is required. The insert carries ANSI and ISO standard designations (KGIP0125N0189GD) and is compatible with KGEM cutter series bodies. Maximum depth of cut is 0.052 inches (1.33 mm). The GD chip breaker geometry supports positive cutting action in these material groups.
Designed for use with KGEM series milling cutter bodies. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards under code KGIP0125N0189GD. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials (material codes P, M, S).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the machine placed in a locked-out, de-energized state before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris before installing a fresh insert to ensure proper seating and runout.
