Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 5090688 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG431MS geometry, grade KCU10, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch insert thickness, and a 0.0156-inch corner radius. The TiAlN PVD coating delivers high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. With four available cutting edges and a negative rake geometry, this insert is engineered for roughing and medium machining applications. It is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists working in production and job-shop environments.

This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S, and H. The MS chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining passes. The KENLOC series designation indicates compatibility with KENNAMETAL KENLOC-style toolholders that accept DNMG-style inserts. Both ANSI (DNMG431) and ISO (DNMG150404) designations apply.

Key Features

  • TiAlN PVD coating for high wear resistance on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron
  • 55-degree diamond insert shape with negative rake and negative side clearance for stable cutting
  • MS chip breaker supports roughing and medium machining operations
  • Four cutting edges per insert for extended tool life and lower cost per edge
  • Honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping during interrupted or variable-depth cuts
  • Compatible with clamp and pin insert-holding methods

Compatibility

Designed for use in KENNAMETAL KENLOC-series toolholders that accept DNMG-style inserts. Conforms to ANSI insert code DNMG431 and ISO insert code DNMG150404. Compatible with clamp and pin holding methods as specified for the KENLOC system.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamp or pin to prevent movement under cutting load. Do not use inserts that show chipping, cratering, or flank wear beyond acceptable limits, as degraded edges increase cutting forces and can damage the toolholder pocket.
