Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 5062140 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI code TNMG432MP and ISO code TNMG220408MP, designed for high-productivity turning, facing, and boring operations. Manufactured in the KENLOC series, this insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, a 60-degree triangular shape, and a neutral hand orientation. It provides 6 cutting edges per insert, reducing tooling cost per edge on high-volume runs. The MP chip breaker geometry supports both roughing and medium machining passes. A chamfered and honed cutting edge style balances wear resistance with toughness across demanding workpiece materials.

This insert is suited for CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with grade KCU10 also rated for cast iron and aluminum applications. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry is compatible with standard TNMG-style clamp and pin holding systems. Typical applications span external turning, face turning, and light boring where consistent chip control and insert life are priorities for machining professionals and toolroom technicians.

Key Features

  • TiAlN PVD coating delivers high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces
  • MP chip breaker geometry handles roughing and medium machining in a single insert style
  • 6 cutting edges per insert maximize cost efficiency on high-run production jobs
  • Negative rake and negative side clearance (clearance code N, tolerance code M) for stable clamping
  • Compatible with clamp and pin holding methods used in standard KENLOC toolholders
  • Multi-use application across turning, facing, and boring reduces insert inventory requirements

Compatibility

Designed for use in TNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert retention. Compatible with KENLOC series holders per ANSI and ISO standards. Verify holder pocket geometry matches TNMG432 (ISO 220408) insert size before installation.

Installation Notes

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the correct torque driver or clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or use impact tools on insert screws. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear, chips, or debris before seating a new insert edge.
