The KENNAMETAL 4176116 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC turning centers and lathes. Built to the NRD4062 insert style in the Top Notch series, this insert features a KCU10 grade substrate with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, delivering thermal resistance and extended tool life across a range of workpiece materials rated C3 and C4. The cutting width measures 3.18 mm (0.1252 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 6.35 mm (0.2500 inches), making it well-suited to medium-depth grooving applications. A full corner radius of 1.59 mm (0.0626 inches) is ground in for consistent finish geometry on each pass.
This insert is intended for use in metalworking environments where repeatable groove geometry and surface finish are critical. The double-end configuration maximizes insert utilization. It is held in place by a mechanical clamp, consistent with standard Top Notch toolholders. Typical applications include grooving steel, alloy steel, and cast iron on production turning equipment. The right-hand orientation governs feed direction and toolholder selection. This insert is sized for Insert Seat Size 4 and carries the manufacturer designation NRD4062R/L.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders accepting Insert Seat Size 4. The manufacturer designation NRD4062R/L applies to this insert style. Verify toolholder seat size and insert hand orientation before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before torquing the clamp to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris prior to seating. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for the insert grade and workpiece material combination.
