The KENNAMETAL 4176058 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the Top Notch series standard, it carries a KCU10 grade designation and an AlTiN finish applied via PVD coating, which extends tool life in abrasive and interrupted-cut applications. The insert delivers a 2.67 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm, making it well-suited for shallow-to-medium groove profiles. It is installed and changed by machinists and tooling technicians using a mechanical clamp-style holder.
This insert is intended for use in Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders configured for left-hand cutting. It fits typical applications on production turning equipment in metalworking environments, including both job shop and high-volume manufacturing settings. The metric sizing designation NG3105 and the left-hand orientation make it appropriate for grooving operations where the tool approaches from the left side of the workpiece. Material grades C3 and C4 indicate suitability for turning steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials at appropriate cutting parameters.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept NG3105 left-hand inserts. Cross-reference manufacturer designation MSC/Manufacturer Number NG3105R/L for holder compatibility verification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and all energy sources locked out per applicable LOTO procedures. Seat the insert fully into the clamp pocket before tightening the clamp screw; inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for the insert grade and workpiece material combination. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping guidance for the specific Top Notch holder in use.
