The KENNAMETAL 4175903 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the Top Notch series standard, it features a left-hand cutting orientation and an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The insert delivers a cutting width of 3.18 mm (0.1252 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm (0.1098 inches), making it well-suited for precision groove profiles. A full-radius geometry with a 1.59 mm corner radius contributes to consistent chip formation and surface finish. The KCU10 grade designation indicates a carbide grade rated for C3 and C4 applications.
This insert is intended for use in metalworking shops performing grooving, parting, and profile turning on lathes equipped with Top Notch-style clamp-type toolholders. The left-hand orientation suits specific spindle rotation and approach directions common in production turning setups. With a maximum depth of cut range of 2.00 to 3.00 mm, it fits medium-duty grooving tasks on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace component manufacturing, and general precision machining will find this insert compatible with their existing Top Notch tooling systems.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders accepting size 2062 inserts with NR-style geometry and left-hand orientation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque driver for the Top Notch clamp screw to seat the insert properly without over-tightening. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and toolholder manufacturer guidelines for proper clamping procedure and recommended cutting parameters.
