The KENNAMETAL 4175876 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an NG insert style with a 2.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm. The insert is finished with an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, providing thermal resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. Left-hand orientation makes it suitable for specific toolholder configurations where conventional right-hand inserts cannot be applied. Machining professionals and CNC operators use this insert for tight-tolerance grooving in both roughing and finishing passes.
This insert is intended for use in turning and grooving applications where controlled chip formation and precise groove geometry are required. The K chip breaker geometry is optimized for managing chip flow in materials classified under grades C3 and C4, including cast irons and harder non-ferrous materials. The clamp-style insert holding method provides secure seating in compatible Top Notch toolholders. The insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units, making it appropriate for shop stocking in production environments.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders that accept NG2 insert size inserts. Compatible with material grades C3 and C4 as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before inserting. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specifications for the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under uneven clamping loads.
